How csfolder works
A step-by-step guide for people who have never invested in skins. Ten minutes from zero to a live portfolio.
Skin investing in 60 seconds
CS2 skins are game items that people buy and sell for real money on open markets. Prices move with supply and demand, like collectibles.
Investing in skins means buying items you expect to grow in price and tracking their value over time. Some items are steady, some swing hard.
csfolder is your control room: it prices matched items from your selected valuation market, remembers what you paid and shows whether you are up or down. It never touches your items, it only reads prices.
Sign in with Steam
Steam is where your CS2 items live. Signing in with Steam takes one click and shares no password: Steam only tells us your public ID.
No Steam items yet? Sign in with Google and add items manually. You can link Steam any time later.
Import your inventory
Open Portfolio, press Import, confirm the preview. csfolder reads your public inventory and adds every priced item as a holding.
Before anything is added you see the full list and can untick items. Three things to know:
- Your Steam inventory must be set to public (Steam privacy settings).
- Pasting your trade URL gives the most complete import. It only lets us read the inventory, nothing more.
- Cases, graffiti and some rare items have no market price and are skipped.
Set your purchase prices
The purchase price (cost basis) is what you paid for an item. csfolder compares it with today's price to show your profit or loss.
Don't remember the price? Skip it: csfolder can set the current market price as your starting point. Such rows get an "estimated" badge.
You can correct any price later: open Holdings and click the pencil next to the cost.
Read your portfolio
The overview shows four numbers. Here is what they mean:
- Total value: what all your items are worth right now, at the best market prices.
- Unrealized P&L: value now minus what you paid. Green = profit, red = loss. It changes with the market every day.
- Cost basis: the total you paid for everything you hold.
- Realized P&L: profit you actually locked in by selling. It only appears after you record sales.

Find an item in the catalog and open its page: the price chart shows where it has been, and the markets table shows where it is cheapest right now.
The csboard row is pinned on top: press Buy in that row to get the item there. With csboard auto-import on, the purchase lands in your portfolio by itself, with the exact price and date.
Glossary
The same explanations pop up across the app wherever you see a dotted underline.
- Float
- A number from 0 to 1 that measures how worn the skin looks. Lower = cleaner and usually pricier. It is set when the item drops and never changes.
- StatTrak
- A variant of the same skin with a built-in kill counter. Rarer and usually more expensive than the normal version.
- Cost basis
- What you paid for the item. csfolder compares it with the current market price to show your profit or loss (P&L).
- Liquidity
- How easy the item is to sell, scored 0 to 100 across markets. High liquidity = sells fast near the listed price.
